The 3115212900 impact piston slots directly into COP 1838, 1838+, 1838HD+, 1838MUX, and 1838MUX+ rock drills. It’s the same component as Atlas Copco 3115 2129 00. Shops use it when the old piston is scored, chipped, or simply past its service limit. Machined from hardened alloy, the weight and balance match the OEM spec so impact energy stays consistent—fewer hammer pressure drops, less strain on the shank and chuck.

Typical trigger for replacement:

Will 3115212900 fit my 1838HD+ even if the serial number is older?
Generally yes. The 1838HD+ kept the same piston dimensions across production years. If your drifter had a factory rebuild or a third-party front end, double-check the piston bore diameter (match to OEM drawing) before ordering. We can email the dimension sheet.
I have 3115 2129 00 on my parts list. Is this the same thing?
Exactly the same part. Epiroc dropped the spaces in the numbering. Same casting, same heat lot standards, same packaging as what you’d pull from an Atlas Copco warehouse.
How do I know it’s not a copy?
Each piston comes in OEM sealed packaging with batch number and QR traceability. We can include a certificate of conformance with your shipment. If you have a CMM, you’re welcome to spot-check—we’ll stand behind the dimensions.
What kind of hours should I get out of this piston in hard rock?
In abrasive granite with 180–200 bar hammer pressure and clean flushing, 1,200–1,800 percussion hours is realistic. In limestone or sandstone, closer to 2,000. Biggest killer is contaminated grease or a worn front guide bushing—replace that bushing at every piston swap.
Do you have the installation torque and clearance specs?
We can send the relevant pages from the COP 1838 workshop manual. Key numbers: tie rod torque, accumulator pre-charge, and front guide clearance. If your crew hasn’t done this before, we’ll walk your lead mechanic through the run-in procedure.
