What does the sliding piece actually do inside the hammer?
It sits around the piston and keeps its back-and-forth movement straight. Without it, you'd get side loading that wears out bushings and seals faster than normal.
Can I fit 3128304355 into an older Atlas Copco Simba H1254?
Yes. Epiroc kept the same dimensions for the Simba H1254 and COP 1838AW+ parts. If your machine originally used the 3128 3043 55 piece, 3128304355 will slot right in.
